ASDA kicks off Christmas price war

Kevin Prince, 24 November 2005

Article summary (if available):
UK retailer ASDA lowers prices; gamers rejoice.

UK retailer ASDA has kicked off a holiday season price war, by selling Need for Speed Most Wanted and True Crime : New York City for just £24.97, that's almost £15 below the official retail price

The grocery giant has advertised the EA and Activision titles at £24.97 in the national press today, with both games on sale at the ultra-low price point from midnight tonight until Sunday (November 27th).

This latest bout of discounting comes after both Tesco and Asda slashed FIFA ’06 earlier this year – and, again, specialist games retailers are up in arms about the move.

“It affects us really badly – Need For Speed is a massive game,” said The Game Company’s Stella Tait. “We will not sell any this weekend. People will just go to Asda instead. These kind of deals will put indies like us out of business.”
