Back in the January edition of ‘Nature’, a science journal, a geneticist known as Paolo Pandolfi from the New York Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center dubbed a cancer-causing gene ‘Pokemon’, due to it being part of the POK gene family. This encodes proteins and turns off other genes, basically giving the patient cancer.
Noticing headlines like “Pokémon Causes Cancer”, legal action was taken by The Pokémon Company USA, asking for the immediate brand removal from the latest edition of the journal. Thankfully for Nintendo, the centre has met their demands and re-named the gene to “Zbtb7”.
Thanks to Cubed3 for the diagnosis. |
