The launch week of the Xbox 360 has failed to distract from Nintendo DS sales, which are now up by over 78% when compared to the 176,958 units sold last week.
Over 300,000 Nintendo DS consoles were shifted between the period of 5th - 11th December - the highest figure since launch, un-matched by any other console in Japan.
Whilst an exact figure and total hardware and software sales for the period are yet to be released, don't be surprised if Nintendo DS sits in #1 with Xbox 360 and PSP battling it out for second place.
And as for software? Well let's just say that you can probably expect to find at least 220,000 Japanese Mario Kart DS players already. |

I'd say calling that Japan "wanting" Nintendo real rubbish really, what they want is Sony, and they're the reason the 360 bombed. Their 80% home console market share dictates that in Japan Sony > Nintendo and Microsoft.

Yeah but this is obviusly talking about Nintendo owning the handheld market Nintendo>Sony but the fact they managed to beat out a Next gen console launch by a giant margin is a feat in its own right.

Consoles, handheld or otherwise, are for children and bandwagon-jumping fanboys (sheep) that can't create their own identity.
My PC is already more powerful than the Rev-36S3.

You're very wrong. Can you play fantastic games such as Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Zelda, Mario, etc on the PC? They are console games and rightly so, as none will play even remotely well on a PC.
And Tony - I think this article has a lot of point, as it isn't highlighting the 360 bombing, but rather the incredible success of the DS for the last week.
