Rising Star Software has announced an update to their 'Revolution' series with Rainbow Islands Revolution for Nintendo DS.
The game will re-vamp the classic arcade game with an interesting use for the touch screen feature of the console. Similar to that of Yoshi Touch & Go, Bub and Bob are now trapped inside bubbles which can be dragged around the lower screen with the DS' stylus.
Using the touch screen you can also create the game's signature rainbows. The length of the rainbow is limited, but can be extended by collecting power-ups that will be recognisable to players of the original. Providing you have enough rainbow power, you can also trap enemies, too. There's also a special mode that allows the player to clear the screen of enemies.
As you can see, the game will look much like the original, with new sprites designed by Harvest Moon artist, Igusa Matsuyama. The old enemies and bosses will also be present, so retro gamers should be satisfied with this refreshing take to the series!
You can expect announcements for multiplayer modes and another single player mode later next year as the game approaches it's February release. |

It reminds me a lot of Yoshi Touch & Go, but I don't mind, as that game is simply pure brilliance in a bubble.

Wait, did you think we were talking about some other 'Revolution'? Because the article title was clearly made in favour of this extraordinary game, uninfluenced by any other factors and possibilities!

Summary:
Rainbow Islands endeared itself to an entire generation of gamers in the late 1980s with its playful mix of intense platforming challenges, a delightfully cute visual style and, of course, a heavy emphasis on rainbow-firing action. Rainbow Islands Revolution takes these core elements and transposes them onto the Nintendo DS and its innovative hardware features.
